What a Remote Start Actually Does for You
The pitch is comfort — a warm car on a January morning on the North Shore, a cool one after it has sat in the sun at the ferry terminal — and that is real. But the reason people keep them is smaller and daily: pressing a button from the kitchen window, or from your phone across town, and knowing the car is running, defrosted and ready by the time you get to it. The engine warms properly instead of being driven cold, which is kinder to it than the alternative.
We install Compustar systems. The range starts with a simple one-way remote and runs up to two-way remotes that confirm the car actually started, and to DroneMobile, which puts the whole thing on your phone over LTE — start, lock, unlock and locate it from anywhere with signal, no distance limit. Most modern vehicles, push-to-start included, are supported. The install integrates with the factory immobiliser so the vehicle stays exactly as secure as it was: the car will run for the warm-up but cannot be driven off until the key is present.
Security Beyond the Factory Alarm
A factory alarm mostly makes noise. A proper aftermarket system does the things that change outcomes: a shock sensor that knows the difference between a passing truck and a window being broken, a tilt sensor that triggers if the car is jacked up for its wheels, and — with DroneMobile — an alert on your phone the moment any of it happens, wherever you are. Add GPS tracking and a stolen vehicle becomes a vehicle you can point the police at. For anything you would genuinely mind losing, that combination is worth more than the loudest siren.
Done Properly or Not at All
Remote start is the one job where the quality of the install matters more than the quality of the box. It ties into the ignition, the immobiliser and the data bus, and a rushed job is how you end up with a car that will not start, a warning light that will not clear, or a warranty dispute with the dealer. Every system we fit uses the manufacturer's vehicle-specific interface, is soldered and loomed back into the harness rather than tapped in, and is tested against your specific year and trim before it leaves. We have been doing this long enough to have seen most of the ways it goes wrong — which is the point of paying someone who has.
Remote Start & Security — Common Questions
Will remote start void my warranty?
No. In Canada a dealer cannot void your vehicle warranty simply because an aftermarket product was installed; they would have to show that the product caused a specific fault. What matters is that the install is done properly, with the vehicle-specific interface the system manufacturer specifies, so nothing about the factory electronics is compromised. That is how we do every one, and it is why we can stand behind them.
Does it work with a push-to-start vehicle?
Yes. Push-to-start and keyless vehicles are the majority of what we fit now. The system talks to the vehicle's own immobiliser through a data interface, so it can start the engine for a warm-up while the car stays locked and cannot be driven until your key is inside. Tell us the year, make and model and we will confirm the exact kit.
What is the range?
It depends what you choose. A basic one-way remote reaches a few hundred metres, enough for a driveway or a parking lot. Two-way remotes go further and confirm on the fob that the car actually started. DroneMobile works over LTE, so range is wherever your phone has signal — you can start the car from the office, the ski hill or another province.
Can I add remote start to a manual transmission?
Yes, with a system designed for it. Manual-transmission remote start adds a safety sequence — the car has to be left in neutral with the handbrake on and confirms that state before it will ever start remotely — so it is safe as long as it is installed and used properly. We fit them regularly; ask and we will walk you through how it works day to day.
How long does the install take?
A remote start on its own is typically a day; add DroneMobile, security sensors or GPS and it can run into a second. It is not a job to rush — the wiring is soldered and loomed back into the harness so it lasts the life of the vehicle. We tell you the time when we book you in and we test everything with you before you leave.
