Two Ways to Get CarPlay — and How to Choose
If your car has a factory screen you like, the cleanest route is usually to keep it. A vehicle-specific interface module goes in behind the dash and adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to the screen you already have — the dash looks untouched, everything factory carries on working, and the resale value stays intact. This is what most owners of a BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche or a recent Toyota or Lexus end up choosing, and it is a large part of what we install.
If the factory unit is small, slow, dated or simply not there, an aftermarket touchscreen from Kenwood, Alpine or Sony replaces it outright: a bigger, brighter, faster display with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto built in, a backup-camera input, and — the part people do not expect — noticeably better sound, because these units carry far better audio processing than most factory radios. Steering-wheel controls, the reversing camera, parking sensors and factory chimes are all retained through the right interface, and on many vehicles factory information such as climate settings still shows on the new screen. Either way, we confirm your exact year and trim before we quote, so nothing turns into a surprise on install day.

Can I add CarPlay to my factory screen without replacing it?
On a great many vehicles, yes. A vehicle-specific interface module adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to the screen you already have, with the dash left exactly as it was and all factory functions retained. Whether your car can do this depends on the head unit it shipped with — tell us your year, make and model and we will check before we quote.
Will I keep my steering-wheel controls and backup camera?
Yes. With a new head unit we fit a vehicle-specific interface behind it, so steering-wheel controls, the backup camera, parking sensors and factory chimes all carry on working exactly as they did. On many vehicles that module also keeps factory information — climate, trip data, vehicle settings — showing on the new screen. If you are keeping the factory screen and adding CarPlay through an interface, nothing changes at all.
Wireless or wired — which is better?
Wireless is the one people want, and it is what we fit as standard: your phone connects the moment you get in and stays in your pocket. Wired still has a place if you drive long distances and want the phone charging while it runs CarPlay, and every unit we install supports both. In practice most people go wireless day to day and plug in for a road trip.
How long does a CarPlay install take?
Adding CarPlay to a factory screen through an interface is usually a few hours. A full head-unit replacement with a dash kit, harness and camera integration is typically a day, longer on vehicles where the factory unit is woven into climate or vehicle settings. Does a new head unit make the sound better?
Noticeably, on most vehicles. A good aftermarket unit carries far cleaner preamp outputs and better processing than a typical factory radio, so even the same speakers sound tighter and clearer. It is also the natural starting point if you think you might add an amplifier or speakers later — the unit gives them a proper signal to work with, which the factory radio often cannot.
