MATCH by Audiotec Fischer β€” BMW-fit amplifier + DSP, 8 channels of amplification with a 9-channel DSP Β· BMW-specific mounting plate and plug-and-play harness

BMW no sound, radio not working, amp dead. If that's what you're searching for, here's what you need to know: on a Top HiFi, Logic 7 or Harman Kardon car, it's almost always the factory amplifier in the back of the car. Not the speakers or the head unit.

BMW radio not working or no sound: amplifier failure symptoms

Usually, the iDrive screen still works fine and the radio shows the station, but you can't hear anything. Sometimes the chimes and parking-sensor beeps go quiet too, because they use the same amplifier. On other cars, the sound goes a channel at a time: first the bass, then one side, with pops and crackles before it goes silent altogether. It's a common, well-documented problem on these cars.

If the amp has failed, here's what we'd put in its place.

BMW amp replacement with a MATCH amplifier and DSP

The dealer's answer is another factory amplifier. That means the same design and the same weak points, so you're looking at doing the job again later. That's if you can get one. The common Logic 7 part numbers are getting harder to find.

We'd replace the failed unit with a MATCH amplifier and DSP from Audiotec Fischer. It's a German-built package made for BMWs, with a BMW mounting plate and a plug-and-play harness. It goes right where the factory amp was. It's the same hardware we use for our BMW sound system upgrades.

Here's a Match install from our shop: a UP 10DSP and a UP 1FX tucked behind the trim, with every wire loomed back to the factory harness. It shows where the replacement hardware would go. This isn't a photo of an amplifier-failure repair.

MATCH BMW amp replacement keeps your factory controls

You keep your factory screen, head unit, steering wheel controls and voice commands. They all keep working, and there's no aftermarket screen going in the dash. MATCH's integration circuitry lets the factory head unit work with a non-BMW amplifier without throwing speaker faults or losing functions like the fader. Nothing gets cut, and the whole install is reversible.

BMW sound upgrade: MATCH DSP tuning

The factory amp is a sealed box with nothing to adjust. The MATCH unit has eight channels of amplification and a nine-channel digital signal processor built in, so we can tune the sound to your car. We measure the car, correct the response and time-align the speakers. That puts the soundstage up on the dash in front of you instead of down around your knees.

So you'd get your sound back, sounding better than it did when the car was new, and still use all the same factory controls.

MATCH makes BMW-fit under-seat subwoofers and speakers too, so you can go further later without redoing the amp work. This is hardware from our shop, not a photo from an amplifier-failure repair.

Why BMW amplifiers fail: water damage

Damp in the back of the car is usually what kills these amplifiers. Water damage can leave your BMW with no sound even when the radio and iDrive screen still appear to work.

BMW HiFi, Logic 7 and Harman Kardon amp replacement

BMW used several factory systems, and they don't all connect the same way. The base HiFi system (option 676) uses an analog signal, which makes it the straightforward one. Top HiFi, Logic 7 and Harman Kardon (677 / 688) use BMW's MOST fibre-optic ring. Those need the head unit reconfigured to feed the new amplifier correctly. You can't do that part in the driveway. It's work we do every week.

Tell us the model and year, and we'll tell you which system your car has before you commit to anything.
