Adding bass to a pickup usually means finding room for a box. Put it in the rear footwell or the bed and it takes space the owner uses.
This Tacoma needed more low end, but the owner didn't want to lose space in the cab or the bed.
A box shaped like the hole
A Stealthbox is a vehicle-specific enclosure. JL Audio moulds each box to fit a particular space in a particular vehicle. That's why it looks so odd on the bench.
The enclosure needs enough air behind the cone for the subwoofer to perform properly. Trimming a generic box to fit can take that volume away. This one uses the empty space behind the rear seat, keeping the volume the subwoofer needs without taking space from the owner.
In and out of sight
Fitted, it sits against the rear cab wall behind the seat, finished in a carpet that matches the factory trim. The rear seat still folds and still carries what it carried before. The bed is untouched. Nothing was cut.
What it changed
The subwoofer added the bottom octave the factory system was missing. Kick drums and bass lines have more weight, without a tiring boom on long drives. We tuned it to fill out the sound for daily driving.
The owner kept the space he needed.
