JL Audio ACP108LGW3V3 β€” 8β€³ powered subwoofer enclosure, 250 W class-D amplifier

Our Vancouver client had just picked up his 2023 Mustang Mach-E. He wanted more bass than the factory system could give him, without using much cargo space.

Small box, no compromises

We needed a compact, self-contained subwoofer that would fit in unused space.

We went through the options on the shelf with him and he settled on the JL Audio ACP108LGW3V3 β€” an 8β€³ driver in a ported enclosure with a 250-watt class-D amplifier built into the end of the box. With everything inside the box, there's no separate amplifier or amp rack to mount and no long speaker-cable runs. That helped us keep the install small.

Down in the load bay, hard against the side trim, in the space between the seat backs and the tailgate. It stays out of the way of whatever the owner puts in the back.

What it changed

This 8β€³ subwoofer fills in the lowest couple of octaves that the door speakers can't reproduce. Set up properly, it makes the whole system sound clearer. Kick drums have more impact, bass lines have pitch, and the front speakers don't have to work as hard.

You hear this clearly in an EV. There's no engine noise masking the bass, so you can hear what the subwoofer adds at every speed, even at lower volume.
